Dear Sir,
Noise pollution has become a growing concern in Bangladesh’s cities, where residents are increasingly exposed to blaring vehicle horns, construction machinery, loudspeakers and late-night social gatherings. Residential areas should provide a peaceful environment where children can study, elderly people can rest and patients can recover. However, constant noise disrupts daily life and creates serious health risks, including sleep disturbance, stress, hearing impairment and reduced concentration.
Although Bangladesh introduced the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2025, their effectiveness depends on proper enforcement. The Department of Environment and local authorities should strengthen noise monitoring, particularly near schools, hospitals and residential neighbourhoods. Drivers, construction companies and event organisers who violate noise limits must face appropriate penalties. Authorities should also establish accessible complaint mechanisms and respond promptly to residents’ concerns.
Noise control is a shared responsibility. Government agencies, businesses and citizens must work together to ensure that every family can enjoy a peaceful and healthy living environment.
