With 86 international centuries and over 28,000 runs across formats, Virat Kohli stands second only to Little Master Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar on both the all-time international century and run-scoring leaderboards.

Across an illustrious 18-year career, the Indian batting icon has continually rewritten record books through sheer consistency, leadership, and match-winning prowess. On the occasion of his 38th birthday today (November 5), here are 10 of his most remarkable career achievements.

Most Test Double-Centuries for India

Kohli holds the record for the most double-centuries by an Indian batter in Test cricket, having reached the 200-run mark seven times. He leads legendary teammates Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar, who each scored six Test double-tons.

Over 50 One-Day International Centuries

Kohli's ODI century tally stands at 55. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record of 49 centuries during the 2023 World Cup to become the first player to reach 50 ODI tons, subsequently adding five more to his tally. No other batter in ODI history has scored more centuries.

Fastest to 10,000 ODI Runs

Kohli remains the fastest player to reach 10,000 ODI runs, achieving the milestone in just 205 innings over a span of 10 years and 67 days, breaking the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar.

Highest Average Among 10,000-Run ODI Batters

Among all batters with more than 10,000 ODI runs, Kohli boasts the highest career batting average at 58.84. Former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the only other player in the 10,000-run club to maintain an average above 50, finishing at 50.57.

Most Successful Indian Test Captain

Statistically, Kohli is India's most successful Test captain, leading the national side to 40 victories in 68 matches. He surpasses Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who secured 27 Test wins as captain. Under Kohli's leadership, India also won nine consecutive Test series.

Highest Test Rating Point by an Indian

Kohli achieved an ICC Test batting rating of 937 points in 2018, which remains the highest peak rating points achieved by any Indian batter in Test ranking history.

Four Centuries in a Single Test Series

During the 2014 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, Kohli scored four centuries across a four-Test series. That milestone stood as an isolated Indian record until current captain Shubman Gill matched the feat during India's 2025 tour of England.

Most Runs in a Single IPL Season

Kohli delivered a record-setting performance during the 2016 Indian Premier League season, scoring 973 runs in 16 matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, including four centuries. It remains the highest individual run tally in a single IPL season.

Fastest to 27,000 International Runs

Kohli became the fastest batter to reach 27,000 international runs across all three formats, achieving the landmark in 594 innings. He broke Sachin Tendulkar's previous record of 623 innings.

Most Overseas Test Series Wins as Indian Captain

Kohli holds the record for leading India to the most Test series victories on foreign soil, securing five overseas series wins. Under his captaincy, India recorded its first-ever Test series victory in Australia, eventually winning two Test series down under under his stewardship.
