A three-hour-old newborn suffered burns to 95 per cent of the body after an incubator caught fire at a private hospital in Dhaka's Chankharpul on Saturday morning.

The baby is receiving treatment in critical condition at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, according to the report.

The child's father alleged that the incubator overheated and caught fire at Royal Care Hospital around 7:00 AM. He also accused hospital staff of negligence and alleged that family members were assaulted after the incident.

However, the hospital's in-charge denied any negligence, claiming the fire was caused by a short circuit. He also rejected the assault allegation.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital doctors described the newborn's condition as extremely critical. Police said they were investigating the incident and would take legal action.
