CJP leads anti-SIR rally in Kochi, demands CEC’s resignation

NEW DELHI, Nov 7: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder AbhijeetDipke shared a message on his Instagram handle ahead of a protest in Kerala's Kochi on Saturday demanding the cancellation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, saying that “it is not over until we say it is over”.

The image accompanying the post read, "See you at 4 pm Kochi." Dipke captioned the post, “Gyanu must go!”
Notably, actor-activist Prakash Raj, CJP national leader Afreen Nawaz and its South India in-charge Vijay Reddy Mallangi will also participate in the march.

The rally in Kochi comes as the CJP and the Opposition continue to demand the resignation of chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the SIR of electoral rolls, despite last month's police crackdown.

It comes just weeks after CJP leaders Saurav Das and AshutoshRanka were arrested for entering JantarMantar in New Delhi, which had been denotified as a protest site.

Zee News adds, The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday reiterated its stand on illegal immigration with the slogan “Detect. Delete. Deport.” amid protests against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The party posted the message on X as Congress MP Shashi Tharoor backed a demonstration in Kochi, Kerala, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The protest, organised as “JantarMantar at Kochi” by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), began at Marine Drive and proceeded to RajendraMaidan. Actor Prakash Raj led the procession, with demonstrators carrying national flags and placards demanding the withdrawal of the SIR and Kumar’s resignation. Organisers put the number of participants at around 500. Police personnel were deployed along the route to regulate traffic and prevent road blockades.
