Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang has come under scrutiny from US lawmakers following allegations that he had a close relationship with a suspected Chinese spy, raising concerns about possible national security risks.

According to reports by US media outlets, Huang had a close relationship with a technology executive named Alice Huang, whom intelligence agencies in the United States, Singapore and Taiwan reportedly suspect of having links to Chinese intelligence.

The New York Times reported that the relationship had drawn the attention of US authorities and that President Donald Trump had been briefed on the matter.

The Wall Street Journal reported that intelligence agencies had credible evidence suggesting Alice Huang could be a Chinese spy.

Several Republican committee chairs in the US House of Representatives have called on Jensen Huang to brief them on his relationship with Alice Huang and Nvidia’s safeguards for protecting sensitive information. They said they needed to assess the extent of any potential threat to US national security.

Senator Chris Coons, a Democrat from Delaware, has also pledged to investigate the matter. In a post on X, he called for congressional accountability over what he described as links involving the Trump administration, Chinese intelligence and wealthy figures in the artificial intelligence industry.

Reports by The New York Times and the Financial Times alleged that Alice Huang had been recruited by senior Chinese intelligence officials to monitor Jensen Huang. Her alleged objective was to persuade him to lobby US officials to ease restrictions on chip exports to China.

Nvidia has firmly rejected the allegations, saying Jensen Huang’s relationship with Alice Huang was no more than a routine business connection. The company said no sensitive information had been shared with her or anyone else.

The Chinese government has also publicly denied allegations that it used Alice Huang to spy on Jensen Huang.
