In 1997, writer Humayun Ahmed, with his self motivation, turned his dream land into reality naming it 'Nuhash Polli'. Imitating his dream, this place was created with undaunted love as he would adore his novels. The powerful imagination of this writer becomes evident as 'Nuhash Palli' resembles a literary beauty, to be more precise, a novel with a very vivid description of Mother nature! As his pen gives life to numerous characters, this place comes to life with its natural harmony as it is the silent witness of several memories of this genius author.
Occupying about 40 bigha of land, the writer chose to name it after his son's name- "Nuhash". As soon as we entered through the prime gate, we were astounded by its natural beauty. Green, green, green all around, as far as the eye could gaze. The walking tracks were bordered with numerous colorful seasonal flower beds which instantly gift a face with a priceless present of a smile. Red, yellow, purple and pink tiny flowers winked as they flirted with the mischievous wind. At a short distance from the main entrance a blue swimming pool is set, adjacent to which lies the sculpture of a mother with her son. This is the statue of his wife holding his son in her hand, guiding way in the journey of life. On the left horizon is the never ending green meadow as the soil dresses itself with a green carpet. Naughty tiny tree houses sit on the breast of many tall trees playing hide and seek with the Mother nature herself. Around the left corner of this vast meadow rests his cottage "Brishty Bilash" as a mirror image of the cottage from his novel "Brishty Bilash". At the east wing of the field lies a big palm garden standing like a array of soldiers guarding this cottage. The writer has planted an enormous rare variety of herbal and floral plants all around Nuhash Palli and thus, maybe, these silent friends of his understand his mind better than we. Along with a wide range of plants the statues of many extinct and mythological animals turn the illusion of time travelling into reality.
Humayun Ahmed is undoubtedly praised to be one of the most popular writers of this century, but one of his side remains unveiled to all his readers. Signs of his love and adoration for his children are scattered all around his dreamland like the "Lilaboti Dighi". "Lilaboti Dighi" is a small pond surrounded coconut plants. At its centre floats a small island with a small bamboo fishing cottage and at its bank is situated his cottage "Bhoot Bilash".
Walking a few more steps and we reached his Liche garden. A prevailing wind of serenity blows through this garden as it takes away all tiredness along with it. Adding a sparkle to the natural beauty of this place stands the statue of the creator himself. For Humayun, Nuhash Palli was the land of his fantasy and thus he spent his last days here writing numerous novels, songs and stories. Today, under the soothing branches of his garden rests he forever. The epitaph with his grave says:
"Allow me to touch your feet,
But do not please bepart me from my seat"
