Singer Farida Parveen sues three for defrauding her

Country's noted Lalon singer Farida Parveen filed two cases against the owner of Sargam, a music studio and two owners of compact disc (CD) recording company for launching her popular Lalon songs without her permission and through fraudulence.
After recording her statement, Metropolitan Magistrate Sattyabrato Sikder ordered the Sargamowner Jahangir Kabir Mintoo, CD recording company owner Solaiman Azni and Md Kamal to appear before it on October 2.
Ekushey Padak winner folk singer Farida Parveen said in her petition that she handed over the right of recording, promoting and distributing her songs in the market to Babul Chowdhury, managing director of Don Music.
The organisation also promoted the songs of famous singers, prominent among them, Abdul Jabber, Firoz Shai, late Mahmuddunnabi and late Khandaker Faruk Ahmed.
But the accused composed her popular folk songs CD of five albums consisting 59 of her songs and marketed those in the country and abroad by fraudulence.
She also complained that the accused have been engaged in the fraudulence since 2005 and they earned nearly taka five crore in this regard.
The singer filed the cases under section 82(1) (2) and 87 of Copy Right law 2000 (amendment 2005) and under section 406, 420 and 34 of the penal code. In the cases, her husband lyricist Prof Abu Zafar and two sons Imam Zafar Nomani and Imam Nahil have been made witnesses.
