Community Policing Day-2017 was observed in different districts of the country on Saturday with the slogan "Police are people, people are police." Speakers at discussion meetings stressed the need for police-people united efforts to prevent crimes and free the society from all kinds of social curses. Community policing can curb militancy, terrorism and social crimes especially, drugs, early marriage and stalking and create social awareness which could be effective means to resist women oppression and sexual harassment, they said. BHOLA: Commerce Minister Tofayel Ahmed said, "Community policing can reduce gap between police and people." The minister was speaking as chief guest at a meeting which was organised at local Shilpakala Academy hallroom to mark the Community Policing Day.

SP Md Mokter Hossen presided over the meeting. Among others, DC Md Selim Uddin, Zila Parishad Chairman Abdul Momin Tulu, Bhola Municipal Mayor Moniruzzaman, Coast Guard Bangladesh, South Zone Commander Mosayed, District Ansar and VDP Commander Jane Alam Sufian, Zila Parishad Vice-Chairman Nazrul Islam Goldar, Organising Secretary of district Awami League Mainul Hossen Biplob, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Md Shafiqul Islam, and Convener of community policing freedom fighter Md Shafiqul Islam also spoke at the meeting. Earlier, a rally led by Commerce Minister Tofayel Ahmed was brought out from police super's office and after parading the main roads, it ended at local Shilpakala Academy. KHULNA: Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and City Unit Policing Forum jointly organised a discussion eeting which was held on Khulna Circuit House Ground. GAIBANDHA: Marking the day, District Community Policing Coordination Committee organised different programmes in cooperation with district police. The programmes included rally from Shahid Minar of the Poura Park, discussion meeting and cultural function at Zila Shilpakala Academy (ZSA), elite reception, blood donation activity at the Monument of the Poura Park, and charity football match at police lines. At 9:30am, a grand rally led by Whip of Jatiya Sangsad and local lawmaker Mahbub Ara Begum Gini was brought out from the Poura Park and ended in front of ZSA after parading the main roads of the town. Later, a discussion meeting was also held at the auditorium of ZSA with Convener of District Community Policing Coordination Committee M. Abdus Salam in the chair. BAGERHAT: On the occasion, a colourful rally was brought out from local press club premises and paraded the town roads. Later, a meeting was held at Independence Squire. BOGRA: On the occasion, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Rajshahi Range, M Khurshid Hossen inaugurated the day's programmes through releasing balloon on Altafunnesa playground in the town. Later, a rally paraded the main roads of the town. After the rally, a meeting was held at Shahid Titu auditorium where DIG, Rajshahi Range, M Khurhsid Hossen spoke as chief guest. SP Asaduzzaman presided over the meeting. CHUADANGA: A colourful rally was brought out from Police Park premises led by Deputy Commissioner Ziauddin Ahmed and after parading the town roads, it ended on local Shilpakala Academy premises. Later, a discussion meeting was held at the Shilpakala Academy hall room. DC Ziauddin Ahmed presided over the meeting while Whip of Jatiya Sangsad and lawmaker of Chuadanga-1 constituency Solaiman Haque Joarder Selun was present as chief guest. Among others, SP Md Mahbubur Rahman, Mayor of Chuadanga municipality Obaidur Rahman Chowdhury, President of District Policing Committee Siddikur Rahman, Chairman of Chuadanga Sadar Upazila Asadul Haque Biswas, local elite and journalists were also present on the occasion. The speakers including the chief guest said there is no room of terrorism in the country and called upon all to extend helping hand to cooperate with the police to curb drug abuse, militancy and terrorism. FENI: On the occasion, a colourful rally was brought out from Feni Model Police Station gate, and after parading several town roads, it ended at Police Lines. Later, a discussion meeting was held at the same place. SP SM Jahangir Alam Sarker presided over the meeting while DC Monoj Kumar Roy was chief guest at the programme. It was addressed, among others, by Vice-Chancellor of Feni University Dr Md Saifuddin Shah, Sadar Upazila Chairman Abdur Rahman, President of Feni Press Club Robiul Haque Robi, President of Feni Reporters' Unity Shah Jalal Ratan, and Municipal Convener of community policing forum Ainul Kabir Shamim. KISHOREGANJ: On the connection, a colourful rally was brought out from Kishoreganj SP office premises and after parading the main roads of the town, ended at Kishoreganj Model Police Station. Later, a meeting was held at the same place. SP Md. Anwar Hossain Khan was chief guest in the meeting and OC of Kishoreganj Model Police Station Khandaker Showkat Jahan presided over it. GS of District Awami League and Special Public Prosecutor Advocate M.A Afzol, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah-Al-Mashud and Pakundia Upazila Chairman Rafiqul Islam Renu attended the meeting as special guests. Later, a discussion meeting was held on Police Lines ground where Advocate Safura Begum Rumi, MP, was present as chief guest with SP S M Rashidul Haque in the chair. Among others, DC Shafiul Arif, Zila Parishad Chairman Advocate Matiar Rahman, President of district unit Community Policing Committee Sheikh Abdul Hamid Babu, President of district unit Paribahan Community Policing Committee Sirajul Haque, Captain (Retired) Azizul Haque, Bir Pratik, officials of district police and members of district unit Community Policing Committee attended the meeting. LAXMIPUR: On the occasion, a colourful rally was brought out on Saturday, which paraded the main streets of the town. To mark the day, District Community Policing Cell organised a discussion which was also held on the premises of Sadar Police Station. SP ASM Mahtabuddin presided over the discussion. ASP Anirban Chakma, district ALGS Advocate Nuruddin Chowdhury Nayan, Sadar UZ Chairman AKS Salahuddin Tipu, Sadar UNO Mohammad Nuruzzaman were present as special guests. MANIKGANJ: To mark the day, District Unit of Community Policing Forum organised the programme. The rally began from the monument of the language martyr and paraded the different important streets of the city. Later, a discussion and cultural programme was held on the premises of the monument. Community Policing Forum District Unit President Moshir Ahmed Majumdar presided over the meeting. MUNSHIGANJ: District Police and Community Policing Forum organised a colourful rally, discussion and cultural programme to mark the Day. The rally was brought out from District Police Lines at 10am and paraded the main roads of the town. Later, a discussion and cultural programme was held at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium. Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, MP, spoke as chief guest while District Community Policing Forum President Professor Prabir Kumar Ganguly presided over the meeting. NETRAKONA: To mark the day, district police organised a colourful rally and a discussion. The days programme began at 10am by hoisting the National Flag at the SP office. The rally was brought out from the same place and paraded the main roads of the town. Later, a discussion was held at the Public Hall where Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy addressed as chief guest with SP Joydev Chowdhury in the chair.
