A pilot of the country's national flag carrier, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, plotted to attack the Ganabhaban-the official residence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina- with a passenger plane while landing aircraft at the airport.
Sabbir Amam, co-pilot (first officer) of Biman, confessed to the court.
Sabbir had planned to crash an aircraft on the residence of Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina in a manner similar to the infamous terror attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York on September 11 in 2001.
Sabbir plotted the attackwith Abdullah, who was killed among several other persons on September 4 in a RAB raid at the house 'Komol Prova' on Bardhan Road in the Mirpur Mazar area.
Sabbir shared his plan with another First Officer Shahran Ali, Captain (Retd) Ataus Kaium and Captain Nowsad, that he wanted to crash a aircraft on Ganabhaban during landing on a return flight from either Rajshahi, Sylhet or Chittagong, Sabbir confessed to the court on November 8.
According to the statement, Abdullah always suggested Sabbir to take the crash plan seriously. "Suicide attack is Halal in Islam", according to statement. Sabbir learned Hadith from Abdullah.
Suspended Biman Co-Pilot Sabbir Ahmed, alias Amam Sabbir, has confessed to his involvement in a plot to attack the residence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with an aeroplane.
Sabbir gave his confessional statement to Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sarafuzzaman Ansari in the latter's chamber. The accused was produced before the Magistrate by Sub-Inspector Md Amirul Islam of Rapid Action Battalion 4, also the investigation officer of the case.
RAB said Sabbir Amam, were an 'accomplice' of JMB suicide bomber Abdullah and was charged with planning to 'hijack a plane'. RAB last month arrested four suspected militants, including Sabbir Amam, a pilot of Biman for planning sabotage using an aircraft.
The other three arrested are wife of Abdullah's flat owner Sultana Parveen, Parveen's relative Ashiqur Rahman and a certain Alam. These three were arrested from Darus Salam.
According to RAB Sabbir was a member of the Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and an associate of the deceased militant Abdullah.
Sabbir's father, Habibullah Bahar Azad, owner of the building, was arrested on September 7 during an 88-hour-long operation that saw seven people, including militant suspect Abdullah, dead.
Tipped off about a militant den, on September 4 RAB raided the house 'Komol Prova' on Bardhan Road in the Mirpur Mazar area. There was a huge chemical explosion in the 'militant den' on the fourth floor of the building during the operation. Militant Abdullah and his wife asked for time to surrender.
But then he, his two wives, two children and two associates blew themselves up in the explosion and died.
