Police failed to arrest Hadisur Rahman Sagor, one of the main planners of the Gulshan café attack, the biggest terror attack in the country's history that left 20 people, including 17 foreigners and 2 police officers, dead.
Sagor, who supplied with grenade and arms for the attack were among the eight militants. Police arrested the remaining seven to have supplied with weapons.
Khadiza, sister of the Gulshan café attack coordinator Nurul Islam Marjan and wife of Sagor, with three children surrendered to police in Jessore some months ago. Meanwhile the law enforcers failed to arrest Sagor.
Trial of the militants is yet to begin because of the delay in submission of the probe report of the case.
A Dhaka court has fixed December 28 for the submission of the probe report in connection with last year's Gulshan terror attack after the CTTC once again failed to meet the deadline. The court has extended the submission date 15 times in the past one and half year.
However, a number of police high-ups claimed significant progress in investigation and said the charge sheet would be submitted to the court 'within a short time'. If we can arrest Hadisur Rahman Sagor we can finish the investigation into the case, the CTTC source confirmed The Daily
Observer. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said investigators are taking time to submit the charge sheet in the case as they want it to be accurate. "After concluding probe, a flawless charge sheet will be submitted soon," he added.
Investigators have identified 35 suspects, including chief coordinator, trainers, planners, arms suppliers and financers of the attack.
The 15 suspected militants killed in the anti-terrorist operations include Tamim Chowdhury, Nurul Islam Marjan, Major Zahidul Islam, Sarowar Jahan, Tanveer Quaderi, Md Abdullah alias Rony, Abu Rayhan alias Tareq and Faridul Islam Akash.
Meanwhile, the neo-JMB leaders major (retd) Jahidul Isalm and militant Rayhan gave a 28-day training to five attackers - Nibras, Mobasser, Ruhan, Khairul and Shafiquel - in Gaibandha for carrying out the attack. However, both of the trainers were killed during anti-militant drives.
Three of the four arrestees-Jahangir Alam alias Rajeeb Gandhi, Raqibul Hassan alias Rigan and Mizanur Rahman alias senior Mizan-have made confessional statements in court under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC)
