Two main mayoral aspirants promise water-logging free Khulna City

KHULNA, May 6: Main two mayoral contenders for Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election promised on Sunday that they would present water-logging free Khulna City if they are elected in the May 15 election and accept the poll results whoever wins.Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque and BNP-backed candidate Nazrul Islam Manju made the promises at the workshop styled 'Citizens' Rights Top Priority in KCC Polls' organised by Democracy International. Chief of Party of Democracy International Katie Croake delivered the welcome speech while Director of Democracy International Aminul Islam moderated the workshop at the city's CSS Ava Centre, where the two main contenders answered questions of the people, civil society leaders and journalists. The candidates affirmed their position against drug abuse, corruption, extortion and land grabbing in the city. They said they would create employment for youth and women and develop the IT sector. They also committed for development, quality works, corruption-free KCC, accountability, creation of modern traffic management, decentralised birth registration at KCC wards, and clean and green Khulna City. Earlier, participants recommended to the mayoral aspirants for solving six important civic problems after the group discussion.
