Feni roads turn beautiful

FENI, May 13: The main roads of the district have been turned beautiful after repairing.
Earlier, people suffered a lot as the roads were not repaired for long.
The District Roads and Highways Department (RHD) brought easiness in road communication in the area after repairing the roads recently.
Local sources said Feni-Sonagazi, Feni-Parshuram-Bilonia, Feni Sadar-Elahiganj-Rajapur-Koraishmunshi-Dagonbhuiyan and Feni-Chagalnaiya are the main roads in six upazilas of the district.
Many potholes were created for want of repair in the last rainy season. Besides, the RCC carpeting was destroyed. As a result, elderly persons, children, students and patients had to suffer a lot while travelling on the road. The businessmen also suffered while transporting their products. The worst-sufferers were the serious patients while they were taken to the district headquarters from the upazilas for better treatment.
The Feni-Parshuram-Bilonia road is the only way of Fulgazi and Porshuram upazilas to connect with the district headquarters.
The 25-kilometre Bilonia road is the only way to go to Chittagong and Dhaka from Feni. The bad shape of the road affected the export-import between Bangladesh and India. Besides, the people of the area suffered a lot.
The Feni-Sonagazi road is an important road to connect Sonagazi, Sadar and Chhagalnaiya upazilas with the district headquarters.
Travelling to the Regional Industrial Zone, Muhuri Irrigation Project and Musapur Regulator was difficult due to the deplorable road condition. Besides, frequent accidents occurred on the 20-km road.
Feni Sadar-Elahiganj-Rajapur-Koraishmunshi-Dagonbhuiyan road is the main way of Daganbhuiyan and Sadar upazilas with the district headquarters. The 18.70-km area of the 22.70-km road was not suitable for communication which added untold sufferings to the people of the area.
The over-all repair of the above mentioned roads were completed in 2017-18 fiscal year under the Periodic Maintenance Programme.
The people of the areas have been relaxed as the roads were fully renovated. So, the communication has become smooth and time saving. At the same time, the number of road accidents has been reduced.
Another important road is Feni-Chagalnaiya road which is seven-km long from Zero point to Star Line. The repair has already started under the PMP project.
Abu Yusuf Mintu, a regular passerby on Feni-Parshuram and Bilonia road, said repair work of the road was done properly. So the sufferings of the residents of Fulgazi and Porshuram Upazilas were removed.
Executive Engineer of Feni RHD Mohammad Zahid Hossain said the road communication and transportation of goods will be easier as the main roads of the upazilas have been repaired.
