Honey farming in Mustard field has gained new momentum in Rajshahi in the last couple of years.
Farmers of this area are showing more interest in commercially cultivation of honey.
On one side, the yield of mustard is growing, and on the other side, farmers are being benefitted by selling honey.
Rajshahi farmers are now passing busy time for collecting honey from the mustard field.
By fulfilling the needs of pure honey in the country, honey farming plays a vital role in preventing malnutrition.
Many farmers have been self-employed through honey farming which helped in the overall poverty alleviation of rural people.
Shosti Paharia, farmer of Gangarampur village in Charghat upazila, said that he has been collecting honey for about 10 years in 12 domestic Serena bee-boxes.
The demand and price of his collected honey are high in market. He hopes to sell about 3 maunds (120 kg) of honey for Tk 50 thousand this year.
He makes profit of around Tk 25 thousand. Seeing his success, many farmers of this region are being motivated.
Puthia Upazila Agriculture Officer Manzur-e-Mawla said that the Agriculture Department is encouraging farmers to take honey farming project in mustard field.
In Bangladesh, there is suitable weather, plantation and environment for honey farming.
The Department of Agricultural Extension of Rajshahi said that the target of mustard cultivation in Rajshahi has been set on 19,596 hectares of land this year.
It has been cultivated in 20,222 hectares of land last year. Already about 15 metric tons of honey has been collected in this area.
