A 12-year-old girl was raped allegedly by a young man in Bagmara upazila of Rajshahi district on Monday night.
Police said Al Amin, a neighbour of the victim, called the girl out of their house. Later, he took her to an abandoned house and violated.
Hearing her hue and cry, adjacent people rushed to the spot and rescued the girl.
They also caught Al Amin in red-handed and handed him over to police, said Bagmara Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Ataur Rahman.
The victim was first taken to Bagmara Upazila Health Complex. Later, she was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) following deterioration of her condition.
However, detained Al Amin was sent to jail following a court order on Tuesday, the OC added.
