A housewife was tortured to death allegedly by her husband for dowry at Kulibari village in Bagmara upazila of Rajshahi on Thursday night.
Deceased Mukti Khatun, 17, wife of Sohel Rana, was a resident in the upazila .
Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bagmara Police Station, said Sohel used to torture Mukti for dowry.
The couple locked into an altercation over the same issue on Thursday night and Sohel beat her up mercilessly. At one stage of torture, Mukti became senseless.Then Sohel and his family members poured poison into her mouth to prove the incident as suicide.
The woman was taken to a village doctor where she was declared dead.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) morgue for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, Mukti’s father Abdur Rahim filed a case with the police station on Friday morning, the OC added.
