Girl 'commits suicide' in lover's house

A girl reportedly committed suicide by taking poison at her lover's house in Mohanpur upazila of Rajshahi district on Wednesday night.

Deceased Jorina Khatun, 18, was the daughter of Badar Uddin of Hariharpur village in the upazila. She was a twelveth grader at Nohata Mahila Degree College.

Quoting family members, Mohanpur Police Station officer in-charge Mushtaq Ahmed said Jorina had emotionally involved with her cousin  Mahabur Rahman, a resident of Matikata village in the upazila, and a honours student at Rajshahi City College.

Jorina went to Mahabur's house and told him to marry her. But, as Mahabur refuse to marry her, the girl took poison, leaving her critically injured.
 
She died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

The body was sent to the RMCH morgue, the OC added.
