2 terrorists held with arms

Police detained two terrorists alongwith huge amount of arms in Sadar upazila of Joypurhat early Tuesday.

Detained men are Ranju Sarker, 26, a resident of Jamalpur village in the upazila, and Akkas Ali, 34, of Ziapur village in Khetlal upazila of the district.

Joypurhat Sadar Police Station officer in-charge Shahriar Khan said an incident of cocktail blast and gunshots occurred at the Zila Parishad member Swadhin Master's house in Akkelpur upazila on December, 28.

Detective Branch (DB) of the district police, later, identified the accused through CCTV footage.

On information, police raided a godown in Jamalganj Charmatha area and detained the two perpetrators of the incident.

The law enforcers also recovered three foreign pistols, four magazines, four bullets, six cocktail bombs, some amount of gunpowder and 40 sharp weapons from their possessions, OC Shahriar said.

Two different cases were filed with the Police Station against the duo under the Arms and Explosive Substances Acts, Shahriar added.
