Sunamganj-1: Independent candidate sued over polls code violation

The independent candidate and incumbent MP for Sunamganj-1 constituency Moazzem Hossain Ratan has been sued for violating electoral code of conduct.

Dharmapasha Upazila Election Officer Mohammad Monjurul Haque filed the case with Dharmapasha Police Station on the instructions of the Election Commission on Saturday night.

According to the election inquiry committee, the independent candidate along with his supporters attacked on Awami League Party office at Joyasree union in the upazila on December 27. At that time, they vandilised the furniture's of the party office and broke the smart phones of AL candidate's supporters. They also tore boat marked banners and posters during the attack and violated the electoral code of conduct.

Later, the Election Commission directed the UNO and police officials to proceed the case.

Dharmapasha Police Station Officer-in-charge Md Shamsuddoha said a case has been filed and legal action is underway in this regard.
