'Youth killed' being attacked by AL supporters in Netrokona

A supporter of winning independent candidate for Netrokona-3 Iftiquar Uddin Talukder Pintu was reportedly killed and 14 others were injured in a clash with the supporters of defeated AL candidate  Ashim Kumar Ukil on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Nurul Amin, 24, son of Kajim Uddin, a resident of Deogaon village under Luneshwar union in Atpara upazila.

Nurul Amin succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday afternoon.

Earlier on Sunday, Nurul Islam along with other winning candidate's supporters brought out a victory procession in Deogaon village at around 10pm. During the procession, the supporters of defeated AL candidate attacked on them and locked into a massive clash, leaving Nurul Amin and 14 others from both sides critically injured.

The injured were taken to Atpara and Madan Upazila Health Complexes where the on-duty doctor referred three injured, including Nurul Amin, to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.

Later, Nurul Amin taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at around 4pm on Monday.

Atpara Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Tawhidur Rahman said being informed, police and BGB personnel rushed there and brought the situation under control.

Additional police have been deployed in the area to control any unexpected situation, he added.

Additional Superintendent of Police in Netrokona Md Lutfur Rahman confirmed the matter, adding that legal action was underway in this regard.

Earlier, 10 more people were injured in a clash between the same two groups at Sukhari union in the upazila over the result of 12th general election.
