Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested eight members of ‘Hridoy group' , including the leader of the group, from Savar on Sunday night.
The arrested are -- main accused of Akash murder case Md Hridoy Hossain, 24, and also the leader of the Hridoy group, and his cohorts Md Ariyan Ahmed Joy, 23, Nasir Uddin Nasu, 52, Md Abirul Haque Abir, 24, Zobair Hasan Khandkar, 19, Md Zakir Hossain Roni, 30, Md Zahidul Islam Jahed, 36 and Amir Hamza, 21.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Legal and Media Wing Director of RAB, disclosed the information at a press conference held at RAB headquarters at Karwanbazar in the capital on Monday morning.
He said acting on a tip-off, a team of the RAB-4 conducted a raid in Arapara area of Savar and arrested them on Sunday night. During the raid, huge amount of local weapons, heroin and statues made of material similar to touchstone (Koshti Pathor) were recovered from their possession.
On July 9, 2023, members of 'Hridoy Group' hacked the rival group member Akash Mahmud to death with sharp weapon, over previous enmity.
On March 12, 2024, they killed Sohel in Savar Municipal area and another person named Amzad in Sobhan Bagh area on March 21, 2024.
He said the arrestees were engaged in different kinds of criminal activities, including including robbery, theft, drug trade, land grabbing, extortion and kidnapping, to establish supremacy in the area. They have 10-15 members in the ‘Hridoy Group’.
During the primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed that their involvement of the criminal offences, said the RAB official.
There six cases against the arrestees with Savar Model Police Station, the official said, adding that necessary legal action has been taken against them.
