Air-conditioned (AC) bus has been added to the fleet of City Services in Chattogram city and it has been named as 'Chattala Chaka Express'.
This 'Chattala Chaka Express' will run from Kaptai road intersection via Bahaddarhat-GEC to Patenga Beach.
CCC Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury inaugurated the new bus service by cutting the ribbon at Hotel Agrabad on Monday.
Along with this, the buses fare has been fixed at a minimum of Tk 20 and a maximum of Tk 100.
The AC buses 'Chattala Chaka Express' ran on the roads of Chattogram from 8 am on Tuesday. Although the name 'Chattala Chaka Express' is written on the front of the bus, the name of the bus company is Shanti Express (Pvt) Limited. With their help, the bus was brought down in Chattogram.
This bus named 'Chattala Chaka Express' is running on route number 14. The journey starts from Kaptai road intersection and ends at Patenga beach via Bahaddarhat, GEC and Agrabad.
Although this service was inaugurated with 20 buses on the route, 10 buses will run on the road in the first phase. A total of 10 buses will operate from both ends of the designated city every 30 minutes. Each bus has 38 seats.
The fare has been set at Tk 50 from Kaptai road intersection to Agrabad, Tk 50 from Agrabad to Kathgarh and Tk 100 directly from Kathgarh to Kaptai road intersection. But when it starts in full swing, counters will be made at every important place on the road, the minimum fare has been kept at Tk 20.
Mohammad Shahjahan, managing director of Shanti Express (Pvt) Limited, told The Daily Observer, ''We have started this AC bus service thinking about the suffering of passengers. In the first phase, 10 buses have been brought down, later 10 more buses will be brought down according to demand. Hope passengers will be satisfied with our service.''
Earlier in 2016, the company named Premier Transport Service Private Limited took the initiative to start AC bus service on route number 14 from the Kaptai road intersection of the city to Patenga Beach l with 6 buses. However, the venture collapsed before commercial passenger transport began.
