Mahmudul Alam alias Babu, prime accused of Jamalpur journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim murder case and suspended chairman of Sadhurpara union parishad, comes out of Jamalpur jail after he was granted bail by High Court on June 30 last.
Mahmudul Alam alias Babu, prime accused of Jamalpur journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim murder case and suspended chairman of Sadhurpara union parishad, has been freed on bail.
He was released on bail at about 5:30pm on Wednesday (July 10) from Jamalpur District Jail after one year of his arrest.
Court and prison sources said the High Court dis not grant bail to Mahmudul Alam alias Babu, prime accused of Nadim murder case, on May 8 last. However, the High Court issued a rule asking the government to explain in two weeks why he should not be granted bail. After the final hearing on the rule on June 30 last, the High Court granted him bail.
Jamalpur District Jail's jailor Abu Fattah said they received the High Court order on Wednesday asking to grant the accused bail. He got out of jail in the afternoon. The High Court granted him bail until the submission of final report of the case.
Victim Golam Rabbani Nadim was Jamalpur correspondent of online news portal 'banglanews24.com' and a Bakshiganj upazila correspondent for Ekattor Television. He was also a member of the Jamalpur Press Club.
Nadim was seriously injured in an attack allegedly by some supporters of Babu in Pathati area of Bakshiganj upazila at night on June 14. He died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital the next day.
A case was lodged against 22 people naming now-suspended Sadhurpara union parishad (UP) chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu as the key accused in connection with Nadim's murder on June 17.
