Country's famed sports organiser Wing Commander (retd) Mohiuddin Ahmed is setting a unique record at the ongoing Paris 2024 Summer Olympics as the 77-year-old is going to join the Olympic Games as an 'International Technical Official' for the 10th time in a row.

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), the international governing body for the sport of Weightlifting, has granted the experienced sports organiser a 'VIP' status in the ongoing Games in France. It is also a matter of pride for the country's sports arena.

The Paris Olympic Games will feature a variety of weightlifting events from 7 to 11 August. The events will be graced by the Bangladeshi, who is scheduled to depart for Paris in a few days.

In addition to ten Olympic Games, he also participated in a Youth Olympic Games. So, in fact, it is going to be his 11th Olympic Games. Besides 11 different Olympic Games, Mohiuddin Ahmed also participated and carried out official duties in 22 World Weightlifting Championships. He is one of the few well-recognised and experienced international organisers in the country who has experience in partaking in seven Asian Games, five Commonwealth Games, four Islamic Solidarity Games, four Asian Indoor Games, 12 South Asian Games, an Afro-Asian Games, and Youth Asian Games.

Over the years, he served as a coach, manager and official of the Bangladesh national weightlifting team in various tournaments. Meanwhile, he travelled to different countries of six continents more than 200 times. None ever made it to different Olympic Games 11 times in a row (including a Youth Olympic Games). The veteran sports organiser from Bangladesh is close to reaching a milestone in the French capital.

After attending the greatest show on earth so many times now Wing Commander (retd) Mohiuddin Ahmed said that he is both glad and surprised. Recalling the past days and occasions, he said, "I am surprised to the fact that I went to the Olympic Games so many. It started with the Seoul Olympics which took place in South Korea in 1988. After participating in nine consecutive Games in the last 40 years, I am now going to the Paris Olympic Games, my tenth Olympic Games. In addition, I also participated in a Youth Olympic Games."

He expressed his belief that participating in the world's largest sports festival 11 times from a particular sporting discipline was not a matter of joke. To him, it's also a matter of luck. He thanked Almighty Allah for granting him sound health and opportunities all these years.

Although he is nowadays known as an international technical official of Weightlifting and an accomplished sports organiser, he was a successful athlete.

Mohiuddin Ahmed began his career in sports in 1962. Since 1972, he has been a full-fledged sports organiser. In 1985, he became an International Technical Official.

Once he was a footballer who played for Arambagh Krira Sangha. He made quite a name as a weightlifter and gymnast for Victoria Sporting Club. He has a record of winning many gold medals in different categories of those two disciplines. He won a bronze medal in weightlifting at the 1970 Pakistan Olympic Games.

He was the Joint Secretary and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Gymnastics Federation (BGF) from 1972 to 1993, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Weightlifting Federation from 1976 to 2018 and Executive Member of the Bangladesh Olympic Association from 2008 to 2012. Also, he has been an executive member of the Asian Weightlifting Federation since 1992 and is currently one of the Vice Presidents of Bangladesh Weightlifting Federation.

He was a teacher at Mohammadpur Government Physical Education College from 1972 to 1978.  Afterwards, he joined the Bangladesh Air Force in 1979 and retired in 2000.

He received higher military training in the United States in 1986. He served as the Director of Training at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) from 1991 to 1992, as the Director of Sports and later as the Director of Admin at the National Sports Council from 1992 to 1996. In 2010, he served as the Chef de Mission of the Bangladesh Contingent in the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. In recognition of his glorious contribution in sports, Mohiuddin Ahmed was bestowed upon the National Sports Award in 2013

Despite his age, he still maintains a good shape. Recently, he won a bronze medal in the 3000-meter walk competition at the International Veterans Athletics in Dhaka.

To shed light on his life-long experience in the sports arena, he is now writing his autobiography 'Din Guli More'. He is hopeful that the readers will find interesting facts in the book.
