Gopalganj DFA ad hoc committee

Less interested in DFA AGM, more interested in selecting a BFF councillor

The Ad hoc committee of the Gopalganj District Football Association (DFA) which was formed and assigned with arranging the Annual General Meeting and the EC Election of the DFA is rather interested in selecting a councillor for the impending BFF EC election.

The BFF election is set for October 26th.
Ad Hoc means something created or done for a particular purpose as necessary. The Gopalganj DFA Ad Hoc committee was constituted and appointed by the regulatory body of local football, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), on July 4th, this year, to organise the District Football Association's Annual General Meeting and Executive Committee Election. The Ad Hoc committee was told to hold the election within the following 45 days. It failed to complete the task by the time.

After the 18th of August, the committee was allowed further time to complete its work.

However, the five-member Ad Hoc committee led by Ali Akbar Milton could not assure the local DFA councillors of any update or a date for the election. Former DFA president Jasimuddin Khan Khoshru said that they were neither informed nor approached by the Ad Hoc Committee about any election.

Mr Ali Akbar Milton is a relative of current BFF EC member Ilias Hossain. Mr Ilias Hossain said on Sunday that he learned that Gopalganj DFA had decided to select Mr Milton as the BFF Council for the upcoming BFF election.

BFF general secretary Imran Hossain Tushar said, "It is not illegal for an Ad Hoc committee to select a BFF councillor. They can do that."

However, the BFF General Secretary tried to avoid answering the question if such practice was  ethical and rather said, "We encourage all that they hold elections in DFAs regularly."

Many district councillors were rumoured to have received cash incentives from candidates in prior BFF EC elections. As a result, the position of councillor had grown lucrative for many.
