Shakib is in his place I am mine, says Miraz

Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz delivered a standout performance in the just-concluded Dhaka Test against South Africa scoring 110 runs across both innings including a crucial 97 in the second innings and taking two wickets with the ball.

Although some consider Miraz as the successor to Shakib Al Hasan, who has retired from Test cricket, Miraz does not embrace this comparison.

"Shakib is in his place and I am in mine," Miraz said during the post-match press conference at Mirpur on Thursday. "He achieved a lot for Bangladesh. He is a legendary player."

"I only started scoring runs consistently in the last year or two, while Shakib has been contributing with the bat from the very beginning of his career. I think it's better not to compare one player with another. We all know how much Shakib has accomplished. Besides, I bat at No. 7-8, while Shakib has always batted higher in the order. When my time comes, I will try to play good cricket for the team's needs," Miraz explained.

Despite Bangladesh's collective batting struggles against South Africa, Miraz and Jaker Ali stood out, with Miraz once again demonstrating his ability to perform under pressure. He said, "I always try to enjoy difficult situations. In those moments, I tell myself that if I play well from here, there's a chance to be a hero."

Addressing his near miss of a century, Miraz added, "Of course, missing a century feels bad for any batsman. But more than the century, I would have liked to execute the plan I was following. I wasn't thinking much about the hundred as I was more focused on how far I could take the team."

Miraz also acknowledged Bangladesh's batting failure in the match. "We admit it was our failure. As batsmen, we didn't score enough runs. Had we posted the second-innings total in the first innings, the match could have been different. We were all out before two sessions in the first innings and that put us behind. In Test cricket, the first innings is very important."

Bangladesh eventually lost the match by seven wickets, despite Miraz's brilliant 97-run effort in the second innings.
