History was written in the country's football as the draft budget of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) for the fiscal year 2025 was not passed for the first time in history on Saturday in the recently finished Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Federation held at a five-star hotel in Dhaka.
The budget of Taka 615,281,040 was not accepted by the delegates in the AGM due to unclear sectors of expenditures and obscured scopes.
The delegates objected to various preliminary spending scopes and ultimately refused to pass the budget. The budget showed a deficit of roughly Taka 140,781,040.
Later, it was agreed that the newly elected executive committee of BFF would once more be provided with the draft budget for the fiscal year 2025. Future decisions will be made by the new committee.
Imrul Hasan, a former vice president who was elected senior vice president unopposed this time after Tarafder Ruhul Amin's withdrawal from the election, said, "The budget was presented but not passed. This is the first time the budget has not been passed. Naturally, the delegates would talk and express their feelings. "This AGM was quite participatory."
AKM Maruful Haque, a well-known coach of the country and a BFF councillor, said, "No specifics were discussed in the AGM, as usual. A revised budget will be presented to the newly elected committee in the next few days and will have to be passed in the next AGM. The delegates wanted to know details of the deficit in the budget. They recommended that the size of the deficit be reduced."
He added that the budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 was passed. However, a large amount of deficit in the draft budget for 2025 was the main reason for failing to pass it in the AGM.
