Bangladesh won the second match of the two match FIFA International Friendly series against the Maldives by 2-1 on Saturday at the Bashundhara Kings Arena, Bashundhara RA in Dhaka.

Bangladesh which is ranked 185th in the FIFA world rankings already experienced a defeat to the Maldives in the first match by a lone goal on Wednesday at the same venue. The Maldives boys who ranked 163rd was good in the first match. So, Bangladesh had to work on its battle plan once again.

The second match too saw a lot of mistakes and fruitless efforts from Bangladesh. Although Bangladesh made quite a few mistakes in the first half, the defence department did impressive in the first 20 minutes. But the defenders started losing control after that.

Finally, the Maldives boys went ahead in the 23rd minutes in the first half. Taking advantage of a wrong pass of Bangladesh defender Topu Barman near the box, Maldives striker Ali Fasir took control over the ball and placed the ball home. It was Ali who scored the match winning goal for the Maldives in the first match.

The host boys managed to restore parity a minute before the short whistle. Bangladesh winger Fahim was looking for a scope to breach the enemy line and constantly keeping markers busy. Fahim got a good chance to carry the ball up on the right flank and he did an impressive job by placing the ball back to his fellow striker Morsalin on the edge of the box at the right time and Morsalin fooled the opponents before passing the ball to striker Mojibor Rahman Johnny who nicely sent the ball into the post. Thus, Bangladesh went to the breather with a tie.

The Maldives boys put more resources on the defence and midfield. The overlapping middlemen became a headache for the host. It took Bangladesh more than 45 minutes to break the deadlock. In the fourth minute of the injury time, Bangladesh finally scored the match winning goal. Receiving a long pass from midfielder Rahmat Miah, winger Shahriar Emon carried the ball ahead and dribbled pass a marker and crossed towards his fellow midfielder Papon Singh who shown a good footwork to hit the net.

Bangladesh fans used to see their team concede goal in the last minutes and lose and it was probably the first tie after so many days that they saw Bangladesh score in the last minute to win a match.

The Maldives' National Football Team travelled in Dhaka on 11 November to play two FIFA International Friendly matches against Bangladesh.

It was a happy ending for Bangladesh as Bangladesh national football team wrapped up the year with a win.
