Seven persons were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in five districts- Sirajganj, Jessore, Barisal, Manikganj and Pirojpur, in four days.
SIRAJGANJ: Two persons were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Belkuhci and Tarash upazilas here early Wednesday.
Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Belkuchi Police Station Mosaddek Ali said, Liakat Ali, 75, son of late Sabder Ali of Baniagati village under Belkuchi upazila, was getting on the road at Subarnasara area when a Belkuchi-bound motorcycle from Sirajganj dashed him, leaving four persons including the old man and the bike rider seriously injured.
Liakat Ali was taken to the Upazila Health Complex where doctor on duty declared him dead.
On the other hand, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station (PS) Abdul Qader Jilany said, Farid Sheikh, 60, a mentally retarded person, was dashed by a truck at Mahishluti area, leaving him dead on the spot.
JESSORE: A pharmaceutical company representative was killed in a road accident in Sadar upazila here on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Azmal Haque, 40, son of Mazid Morol of Kahcua area in Jessore town and representative of a local Nipa Drug Agency. He lived in a rented house at Barandipara area of the town.
Eyewitnesses said, police and the victim's brother-in-law Rakib Hossain said Azmal was returning from Jessore town to his house when at Bakchar area his motorcycle was dashed by a truck at 8pm, leaving him dead on the spot.
Kotwali PS OC Ilias Hossain said, the driver of the truck fled from the spot.
BARISAL: A youth was killed in a road accident at Amirabad area under Nalchhiti upazila of Jhalakati district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Raihan, 15, son of Sohel Sikder of Purba Chandkathi area in the upazila.
The victim's relative Md Masuk said, "Raihan used to serve at Pran Company. On Tuesday, we heard the news that he died at the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) after he was seriously injured in a road accident at Amirabad area at 10am."
Ward Master of SBMCH Abul Kalam said, the body was sent to the morgue for an autopsy.
MANIKGANJ: An Ansar-VDP member was killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Aricha highway at Mushuria area under Shibalay upazila here on Monday noon.
The deceased was identified as Hayat Ali, 55, an Ansar-VDP member at Shibalay union and resident of Madhabdia village in the upazila.
In-Charge of Borongail highway police outpost Yeamin-ud-Doula said, the deceased was crossing the road at the said area at 1pm when a Dhaka-bound bus of 'Sohag Paribahan' from Kolkata of India dashed him and he was killed on the spot.
Later, the driver and the helper of the bus fled from the spot after parking the bus at Manikganj bus stand area.
Police seized the bus, while a case was filed with Shibalay PS.
PIROJPUR: A man and his son died in a road accident on the Mathbaria-Sapleja road in front of Biswas Bari area in Mathbaria upazila here early Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Kanchan Ali Mridha, 70, ex-union parishad member and his son Alamgir, 38, of Sapleja village in the upazila.
Locals said, at 12:30am on Sunday, Alamgir, his father and younger brother Zakir Hossain were coming to Mathbaria upazila town from Sapleja by a motorcycle.
But, due to dense fog, Alamgir lost control of the bike on a bailey bridge at the said area, leaving his father dead on the spot and he and his brother seriously injured.
They were rushed to Mathbaria Upazila Health Complex, but Almagir died later on the way to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
An unnatural death (UD) case was filed with Mathabaria PS.
