Two sent to jail over attack on journalists in DRU premises

 
A Dhaka court has sent Zakir Hossain and his wife Beauty Khatun to jail in connection with the recent attack on journalists on Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) premises at Segunbagicha.

The order was issued on Sunday (May 25) by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam after the couple was produced before the court. Shahbagh Police Sub-Inspector Khalek Mia, the investigating officer, sought their detention in jail, which the court granted.

The accused were arrested from their residence in Segunbagicha on Saturday evening (May 24).
According to police, around 50 attackers, including Zakir Hossain, Beauty Khatun, Ador Akter, Uday Hasan, Hriday, Antora, Imu, Rana, Kamal and Ratan, carried out the attack on the night of May 21 using firearms, sharp weapons, and sticks.

Several journalists were injured in the assault, including DRU President Abu Saleh Akon, Office Secretary Rafique Rafi, and members Moshior Rahman, Mahbub Hasan, Delwar Mohin, and Mofizul Sadiq. Law enforcers, including the army, intervened to restore order.

On May 22, DRU administrative officer Sulaiman Hossain filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station, naming 10 individuals and accusing 50 unidentified persons.
