BD gold price changes 90 times, rises to Tk 88,635 in one year

The price of gold has fluctuated widely throughout the year. The price of gold has changed 90 times this year. Of these, the price has increased 63 times and decreased 27 times. As a result, the price of one bhori of gold has increased by Tk 88,635 or 64 per cent in one year. One record has been set for the highest price of gold.

The Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS) is responsible for determining the price of gold in the country's market. The relevant committee of the organization last met on December 29 and determined the new price of gold, which has been effective from December 30.

As per the decision of BAJUS, the new price of the best quality or 22-carat gold has been reduced by Tk 2,508 to Tk 2,26,923. The new price of a bhori of 21-carat gold has been reduced by Tk 2,392 to Tk 2,16,600.

In addition, the new price of a bhori of 18-carat gold has been reduced by Tk 1,680 to Tk 1,85,691. And the price of gold per bhori in the traditional method has been reduced by Tk 1,808 to Tk 1,54,723.

This is not the highest price of gold in the country's market, but the highest price of a good quality bhori in the country's market is Tk 2,29,431. This price was set on December 29. The price of gold was reduced within 24 hours of setting this record price, which is the last gold price of 2025.

This year, the first change in the price of gold in the country's market was on January 16. On that day, the price of a good quality or 22-carat bhori (11.664 grams) of gold was increased by Tk 1,155 to Tk 1,39,443. After that, there have been 89 more price changes. The price of gold has never changed so many times in a year in the country's market.

Along with the highest number of gold price changes in the country's market, there was also a record price increase in 2025. The price of a good quality bhori gold increased by Tk 88,635 in a year. The price increase rate is 64.09 per cent. The price of gold has never increased so much in a year in the country's history.

A review of the data shows that in 2000, the price of a good quality bhori gold was Tk 6,900. After that, it increased several times to Tk 42,165 in 2010. The price of a bhori gold in the country first reached Tk 50,000 in 2018. In January 2020, the price of a bhori gold rose to Tk 60,361.

Meanwhile, the price of a good quality bhori gold at the beginning of last year was Tk 111,041. And at the end of the year, it stood at Tk 138,288. Accordingly, the price of gold in 2024 increased by 25 per cent.

And the price of good quality gold in the domestic market first touched Tk 200,000 on October 7 this year. After that, the price of gold was increased several times. Even at the end of the year, the price of gold was increased five times in a row. In this, the price of a good quality bhori gold reached a record Tk 229,431. Although the price decreased slightly after that, the year is ending.

Due to the record increase in prices this year, the price of a good quality bhori gold in the country has increased by Tk 166,571 in the last five years. The rate of increase in price is 275.96 per cent. In other words, the price of gold has increased by 3.76 per cent in the space of five years.
