A woman was killed after falling under a moving train while boarding it with her husband at Rajshahi Railway Station on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Rupa Khatun, 23, wife of Md Anik, a resident of Tittorkuri village under Durgapur upazila in Rajshahi.

Confirming the incident, Roni Saha, sub-inspector of Rajshahi Railway Police Station, said that Anik worked for a furniture company in Dhaka and was travelling there with his wife aboard the Padma Express.

As the train started moving, Anik managed to get on first and tried to pull his wife up by holding her hand. As Rupa slipped from his grip and fell under the train, he said, the incident left one of her legs nearly severed, while she also sustained severe injuries to her other leg and head.

Rupa was rescued and rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared her dead.

Rajshahi Railway Police officer-in-charge (OC) Faisal Bin Ahsan said that the body would be handed over to the family after completion of legal formalities.
