
FENI, Jan 4: The nomination papers of candidates contesting the 13th national parliamentary election in Feni's three constituencies were scrutinised on Sunday under the supervision of District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Monira Haque.
Out of 35 submissions, 22 were declared valid, 12 cancelled, and one kept suspended.
In Feni-1 (Fulgazi, Parshuram and Chhagalnaiya), among 10 candidates, the nomination paper of late Begum Khaleda Zia was kept suspended, three were cancelled, and six declared valid.
Those cleared include Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Convener of BNP's Dhaka South unit, Jamaat's SM Kamal Uddin, Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB)'s Kazi Golam Kibria, Bangladesh Muslim League's Mahbub Morshed Majumdar, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan's Anwar Ullah Bhuiyan, and Jatiya Party's Motair Hossain Chowdhury.
Cancelled nominations include Mohammad Nazmul Alam of Khelafat Majlis for failing to submit tax documents, Mohammad Firoz Uddin Chowdhury of Bangladesh Congress for unpaid land development tax, and independent candidate Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan for insufficient voter signatures.
In Feni-2 (Sadar), nine of 14 candidates were cleared and five rejected. Valid candidates include BNP Chairperson's Adviser Professor Zainal Abedin VP, IAB's Md. Ekramul Haque Bhuiyan, Amar Bangladesh Party Chairman Mujibur Rahman Manju, JSD's Shamsuddin Majumdar, Khelafat Majlis's Mostafizur Rahman, BSD (Marxist) candidate Jasim Uddin, Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) Chairman Md. Tarikul Islam Bhuiyan, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolon's Md. Abul Hossain, and Amjonota Dal's Saiful Karim Majumdar.
Cancelled nominations include Insaniyat Bangladesh's Taherul Islam for missing affidavit signatures, Khelafat Majlis's Mohammad Harunur Rashid Bhuiyan for failing to submit tax returns, and independents Mohammad Yakub Nabi Bhuiyan, Md. Ismail, and SM Humayun Kabir Patwari for invalid voter signatures.
In Feni-3, seven of 11 candidates were cleared and four rejected. Valid candidates include BNP Vice-Chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo, Jatiya Party's Md. Abu Sufian, Jamaat's Mohammad Fakhruddin, IAB's Md. Saif Uddin, Islami Front's Md. Abu Naser, BSD's Abdul Malek, and Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan's Mohammad Khalekuzzaman Patwari.
Cancelled nominations include Insaniyat Bangladesh's Md. Hasan Ahmad for unpaid government dues, Khelafat Majlis's Mohammad Ali for missing affidavit signatures, independent Khaled Mahmud for invalid voter signatures, and BNP district member Mahbubul Haque Ripon for both insufficient voter signatures and pending government work orders.
According to election officials, a total of 48 nomination papers were collected across Feni's three constituencies, with 35 formally submitted-10 in Feni-1, 14 in Feni-2, and 11 in Feni-3.
