Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) has arrested a fugitive accused in the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.

The arrest took place around 6:30 PM on Saturday in a raid conducted at Laldighi area under Kotwali Police Station jurisdiction.

The arrested accused is Ganesh, 19, son of Sharip, also known as Sharif Das, from Sevak Colony of Kotwali.

According to RAB sources, Ganesh had been evading arrest for a long time in connection with the case. His location was identified through secret intelligence and surveillance, leading to the successful operation.

Case documents show that on November 26, 2024, a clash occurred near the Chittagong Court Building over the bail of Chinmoy Krishna Das.

During the incident, lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was attacked and fatally hacked.

Following the incident, Alif’s father, Jamal Uddin, filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station, naming 31 individuals in the report.

On June 1, 2025, the investigation officer of the case, then Assistant Police Commissioner Mahfuzur Rahman, submitted a chargesheet to the court.

Later, on August 25, Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin Mahmud approved the chargesheet against a total of 39 people after hearing on its admissibility.

RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) ARM Mozaffar Hossain stated that legal action has been taken against the arrested individual and he has been handed over to the concerned police station for further proceedings.
