Ten sentenced to life in 2 separate murder cases

Courts in Pirojpur and Narayanganj have sentenced a total of ten people to life imprisonment in separate murder cases, marking the conclusion of long-running investigations.

In Pirojpur, six individuals were handed life terms and fined Tk 10,000 each for the killing of Abu Akon, 43, in Indurkani Upazila. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of imprisonment. District and Sessions Judge Md. Muzibur Rahman delivered the verdict on Monday morning at his court.

The convicts are Sawpan alias Sohel Mollah, 28; Abdur Rashid Mollah, 70; Irani Begum, 25; Abdul Kader Mollah, 35; Sufia Begum, 45; and Punnu Begum, 40. Originally, ten people were accused in the case; three have since died, and one was acquitted due to insufficient evidence.

Meanwhile, in Narayanganj, four people were sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Tk 50,000 each for the murder of Bhajan Chandra Das in a premeditated crime. 

An additional two years of rigorous imprisonment will be imposed if the fines are not paid. Narayanganj Senior District and Sessions Judge Abu Shamim Azad announced the verdict on Tuesday afternoon.

The convicted are Sajal Barman, son of Narayan Barman; Sanjit Barman, son of Pagal Chan Barman; Ruma, daughter of Ayenal Hossain; and another Ruma, daughter of Kader. The accused were absconding at the time of the verdict.
