Man held after busting illegal arms factory in Faridpur

Joint forces arrested a man and uncovered an illegal arms manufacturing factory in Faridpur’s Madhukhali upazila on Friday night.

The arrested was identified as Badal Sarkar, 52, son of Nitai Sarkar of Dumain village, and was detained during a raid at his residence, where the clandestine arms factory had been operating.

Acting on a tip-off, members of the Madhukhali Army Camp, in coordination with local police, carried out the drive and recovered a single-barrel pipe gun, 12 rounds of ammunition, 14 recoil springs, two hammers, a drill machine and other equipment used in the production of firearms.

Army sources said Badal Sarkar had been manufacturing illegal arms at his workshop for a long time and supplying them to criminals in different parts of Faridpur. The sources added that the demand for such firearms has reportedly increased in recent times ahead of the national election.

Badal was later handed over to Madhukhali Police Station for further investigation.

Madhukhali Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Fakir Taijur Rahman said that a case has been filed against the accused under the Arms Act, and further legal action is underway.
