2 including ex-JCD female leader held with firearms, ammo in Shariatpur

Joint forces arrested two individuals, including a former female leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), along with firearms and ammunition from separate drives in Shariatpur district on Wednesday night.

The arrested were identified as Ismat Jahan alias Elora Howlader, a resident of Angaria area under Shariatpur Sadar upazila and Rabbi Morol, a resident of Moktarchar area under Naria upazila in the district. Ismat was previously joint convener of the Chhatra Dal’s district unit.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of joint forces officials led by Major Sajedur Rahman of the Shariatpur camp conducted a raid at Montu Talukdar’s residence in the Swarnaghose area of Shariatpur municipality and arrested Ismat along with firearms and ammunition.

During the search, they seized a shotgun with 71 cartridges, two AK-22 rifles with 57 rounds, three magazines, a 9mm pistol with 12 rounds, six mobile phones including two iPhones, three routers, a laptop, a tablet, various computer accessories, a motorcycle, a dagger, bottles of foreign liquor, passports, chequebooks, visa cards, foreign currency, multiple SIM cards and memory cards, along with other items.

In a separate drive, a team of officials led by Major Ananya of the Naria Camp conducted a drive in Noyon Madbar Kandi area of Moktar’s Char union and arrested Rabbi with firearms.

Officials seized a single-barrel gun, one cartridge and homemade arms from his possession.

5-East Bengal Regiment commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Minya Mohammad Mehedi Hasan confirmed the incident during a press briefing on Thursday.
