A feedback workshop on the Local Preparedness Plan (LPP) was held in Bogura on Thursday to strengthen local-level disaster preparedness, climate resilience and emergency response mechanisms.

The workshop was organised under the Local Government COVID-19 Response and Recovery Project (LGCRRP), implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) under the Local Government Division (LGD) with support from the World Bank.

State Minister for the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam attended the event as the chief guest in Bogura.

Representatives from urban local government institutions, LGED officials, local government bodies, professionals, civil society organisations and other stakeholders took part in the event and provided feedback on the draft preparedness plan.

Speakers highlighted that rapid urbanisation, climate change, drainage problems, heat stress, public health risks and emergency management challenges require practical and locally focused preparedness strategies.

They said the LPP would help urban local government institutions identify risks, define responsibilities, prioritise preparedness actions and improve coordination among authorities, communities, service providers and development partners.

Participants also discussed risk assessment, emergency response arrangements, resource mobilisation and institutional coordination to ensure effective implementation of the plan.

Officials said the LPP is aligned with the objectives of LGCRRP, focusing on improving urban resilience, service delivery, institutional capacity and sustainable climate-resilient development.

The feedback gathered from the workshop will be incorporated into the final plan to make it more practical, locally relevant and easier to implement.

The event concluded with a commitment from stakeholders to work together to build safer, more inclusive and disaster-resilient urban communities.
