Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has called on citizens to safeguard their democratic rights, saying the decision to choose a government rests solely with the people and must never be handed over to anyone else.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Shafiqur Rahman urged voters to remain vigilant and protect their right to vote.

“You can now surely understand why mobile phones were banned within 400 yards of polling centres,” he wrote, referring to a recently withdrawn directive.

Describing the move as unprecedented, he said the public remained steadfast and did not stay silent, ultimately compelling Election Commission to revoke the decision.

“When citizens stay alert, no force can hide the truth, and no authority has the power to ignore the will of the people,” he added.

The Jamaat leader further stated that no malicious force would be able to mislead the nation anymore. “This nation is now awakened. The Gen-Z generation cannot be deceived; they observe, they question and they stand firm in their position,” he wrote.

Reiterating his stance, Shafiqur Rahman said, “The decision to choose the government belongs to the people. This is the rule and this is how it must be. Guard this right, protect it, and never surrender it to anyone. A nation that is awake cannot be defeated.”
