All candidates who contested the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election have been asked to submit their election expenditure returns by March 15.
In this regard, a letter signed by Senior Assistant Secretary ASM Iqbal Hasan of Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) was sent to all returning officers on Wednesday (February 25).
The letter states under Article 44C of the Representation of People's Order, 1972, all contesting candidates are required to submit a return of election expenses to the returning officer within 30 days of the publication of the gazette notification in the names of the elected candidates.
The gazette containing the names and addresses of elected candidates in the 13th parliamentary election was published on February 13. Accordingly, the 30-day deadline will expire on March 15, within which all contesting candidates must submit their expenditure statements.
The letter also instructs returning officers to take necessary steps in line with Circular-18, issued in connection with the 13th parliamentary election, to ensure submission of expense statements by contesting candidates. It directs that the information regarding the election expense returns submitted to the respective returning officers' offices must be sent to the Commission by March 25.
