3 held with large haul of foreign liquor in Gazipur

Police arrested three suspected drug peddlers along with a large haul of foreign liquor during a special drive at Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur district on Thursday noon.

The arrested were identified as Md Mehedi Hasan, 34, of Kishoreganj Sadar; Md Nazir Hossain, 21, of Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj; and Amanullah, 21, of Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj. Mehedi Hasan and Nazir Hossain had been living in rented houses in the Ghonapara area.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive around noon inside the premises of China Bangla Concrete and Block Industry near Pathorghat in the Ghonapara area of Kaliganj municipality. Police searched a pickup van used for product transportation by the factory and found the liquor hidden inside.

During the drive, police recovered a total of 38 cartons containing 1,824 cans of foreign liquor from the spot. A pickup van used to transport the illegal consignment was also seized.

Confirming the matter, Kaliganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Jakir Hossain said that legal action is underway.
