NCP takes extensive programmes to mark 1st founding anniv

National Citizen Party (NCP) announced an extensive programme to mark its first founding anniversary under the slogan "The country will go on a new path, it will not return to fascism," signalling what leaders described as a renewed constitutional and political mobilisation.

Speaking at a press conference held on Thursday night at the party's temporary central office in Bangla Motor, convener Ariful Islam Adeeb outlined a month long schedule framed around what he termed the motto "revolution alternative construction." He stated that an iftar mahfil would take place on 28 February at the Dhanmondi Abahani Club ground with families of July martyrs, leaders of anti fascist political parties, anti fascist media workers, activists, and district level conveners and member secretaries from across the country. He added that documentaries and films reviewing the party's activities during the past year would also be screened.

Adeeb further said that divisional level observances would follow throughout Ramadan, with iftar gatherings scheduled sequentially in Chittagong, Comilla, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Barisal, Khulna, Rajshahi and Rangpur before concluding with metropolitan level events in the capital.

Senior Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar asserted that "the government has no other option but to implement the referendum," adding that if the BNP "wants to walk the path of fascism again, the people of the country will resist them." His remarks invoked the lexicon of popular sovereignty and implied a plebiscitary test of executive legitimacy.

Addressing broader parliamentary strategy, Adeeb said the eleven party alliance was "positive about raising the impeachment motion of the President in the first session of Parliament," expressing hope that coalition partners would support the proposal. The statement indicates a possible attempt to initiate a constitutional accountability mechanism through legislative procedure should political consensus materialise.
