Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has been admitted to a hospital in Dhaka after he fell sick.

"Sir fell sick [on Saturday] and was admitted to the United Hospital in Gulshan," his aide Shahiduzzaman said on Sunday.

Shahiduzzaman added that although the minister is feeling better, doctors are closely monitoring his condition.

A member of the BNP Standing Committee, Amir Khosru was elected to parliament from Chattogram-11 in the 13th parliamentary election. He was subsequently given charge of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Planning.

He was first elected to parliament in a by-election from Chattogram-8 in 1991.

He went on to win from the same constituency in both the February and June elections of 1996 and again in the 2001 general election. However, he lost the 2008 election to an Awami League candidate.

After the BNP formed the government in 2001, Amir Khosru was appointed minister for commerce, a post he held until 2004.    "bdnews24
