The Bangladesh and United States armed forces will begin their annual joint military exercise ‘Tiger Lightning 26’ on Sunday.
According to a press release issued by the US Embassy on Saturday, the annual exercise, which began in 2017, was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic but has been held regularly over the past five years.
More than 160 military personnel from Bangladesh and the United States will participate in this year's exercise. The training will focus on jungle operations, counter-terror, and tactical combat casualty care, offering both nations a chance to understand each other’s capabilities.
The US embassy said the exercise will enable military personnel from both countries to gain a deeper understanding of each other's capabilities and operational procedures. It is also expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation, coordination and the ability to operate jointly in real-world scenarios.
According to the statement, Tiger Lightning 26 is part of the US Army Pacific's Theater Army Campaign Plan and Security Cooperation Programme. The exercise aims to further strengthen professional ties between the armed forces of the two countries, enhance operational readiness and effectiveness, and improve coordination and interoperability between the Bangladesh Army and the US Army.
