HABIGANJ, Mar 7: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has taken strict measures to prevent the smuggling of fuel and essential commodities along the Habiganj border. Surveillance has been intensified with the establishment of special check posts and increased mobile patrols.

The 55 BGB (Habiganj Battalion) under the Sreemangal Sector of the Sarail Region said that patrolling has been strengthened along nearly 103 kilometres of border under its jurisdiction. Special inspections are being conducted within an 8-kilometer zone from the zero line inside the border area.

Particularly at Balla ICP and adjacent remote border areas, guard coverage has been doubled. BGB is also keeping a close watch to ensure that unusually large quantities of fuel are not purchased or stored in drums in ways that could enable smuggling.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Tanzilur Rahman, Commander of 55 BGB (Habiganj Battalion), said, "Following directives from BGB headquarters, we are committed to protecting the country's fuel and resources. Under the overall guidance of the Sarail Region and Sreemangal Sector, we are maintaining tight security along our responsible border areas and enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against fuel smuggling. Any attempt to illegally transport national resources will face strict legal action."

In addition to patrols, awareness programmes are being conducted with local representatives and residents to prevent smuggling. Special campaigns have also been launched in the Balla ICP area. BGB's intelligence network is active 24/7 to track smuggling rings and potential routes.

The battalion continues to conduct sudden night and early-morning operations, including ambushes, to prevent smuggling, ensuring uninterrupted enforcement of anti-smuggling measures along the border.
