3 jailed for killing 20 dogs

A Dhaka court on Sunday sentenced three men to two and a half years in prison for killing 20 dogs in the Dholaipar area of Jatrabari in 2021.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain delivered the verdict. The convicts are Md Abul Khayer, Md Opu and Md Manik.

Manik was present in court and was sent to jail, while arrest warrants were issued against the two others who remain absconding.

According to the case, the accused killed 20 dogs with iron rods, pliers and lethal injections in Dholaipar on January 23, 2021. They were later identified through video footage.

The case was filed by Md Maruful Haque on behalf of Animal Lovers of Bangladesh. After investigation, police found evidence of the accused's involvement and submitted a charge sheet.
