Shaheed Hadi murder: Family demands trial of all involved, not just arrested

The family of slain Inqilab Moncho convener Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi has demanded exemplary punishment for everyone connected to the murder, not just the recently arrested prime accused Faisal Karim Masud.

Speaking at a press conference at Nalchiti Press Club auditorium on Monday afternoon, Hadi's sister Masuma Sultana Hadi called for the swift repatriation of shooter Faisal Karim Masud and his associate Alamgir Hossain from India under the existing prisoner exchange agreement between Bangladesh and India.

She also expressed relief at the news of their arrest.

In a written statement, Masuma Hadi said, "The killer fled the country within hours of shooting Hadi in broad daylight right under the watch of law enforcement agencies. Eighty-seven days have passed since Osman Hadi's murder, yet the investigating agency has failed to submit an acceptable charge sheet to the court."

She said the family had repeatedly urged the previous government to conduct a fair and impartial investigation through the United Nations, but their pleas went unheard.

Addressing the current administration, she appealed to Prime Minister Tarek Rahman for full cooperation in ensuring justice. She demanded the public disclosure of the identities of the mastermind behind the killing, those who financed the operation, and individuals who helped the suspects flee to India.

Masuma Hadi warned that any attempt to stage what she described as a theatrical trial would be resisted by the people of Bangladesh. "If anyone tries to turn the trial into a farce, we will stand with the patriotic people of this country to prevent it," she said.

Hadi's brother-in-law Amir Hossain and local political leaders were also present at the press conference.

Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain were arrested early Saturday morning from the Bangaon area of West Bengal by Indian security forces. Osman Hadi was shot in the Bijoynagar area of Dhaka on December 12 last year and died on December 18 while receiving treatment in Singapore.
