4 business establishments fined in Rangpur

Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) fined four business establishments a total of Tk 1.5 lakh for various irregularities in Rangpur city on Wednesday.

According to sources, a team of officials led by district DNC Deputy Director Jahangir Alam conducted a mobile court drive at several markets in Rangpur city and fined four businesses.

During the drive, ‘Vintage World’ was fined Tk 50,000 for promoting its products as foreign items despite not having genuine imported goods.

Another Tk 50,000 fine was imposed on ‘Nishat Benarasi Showroom’. The showroom was selling both Indian and locally made sarees but failed to clearly mention which products were foreign and which were domestic.

In the same drive, ‘Royalty Mega Mall’ was fined Tk 30,000 after authorities found that not all fabrics sold there as “foreign” were actually imported.

Additionally, ‘Top Ten Showroom’ was fined Tk 20,000 for various irregularities.

District DNC Deputy Director Jahangir Alam said that market monitoring has been intensified ahead of Eid as many businesses attempt to mislead customers by claiming that their products are foreign.

He added that such enforcement drives will continue to protect consumer rights.
