Man held over attempted child violation in Khagrachhari

Police arrested a man on allegations of attempting to violate a class three schoolgirl at Kadamtali area in Khagrachhari municipality on Wednesday evening.

The arrested was identified as Akhtar Hossain, a trader by profession.

According to locals, the child had been missing since afternoon, prompting family members and locals to search the surrounding areas.

Later, announcements were made through the loudspeaker of Kadamtali Roads Mosque seeking information about the child.

At around 7:30 PM, the girl was found inside the shop of the accused, from where she was brought out.

After hearing the incident from the child, relatives and locals informed the police, who subsequently detained Akhtar Hossain and took him to the police station.

Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Kay Kislu said that the initial description provided by the child shows signs of attempted rape. She has been sent to hospital for primary treatment.

Preparations are underway to accept the case, added the OC.
