Two police officials, including an officer-in-charge (OC), were injured in an attack by suspected robbers during an operation in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on Tuesday afternoon. Police opened fire during the incident, leaving two suspects injured.
The incident took place at Dhaka Udyan when a team from Adabor Police Station went to arrest a robbery gang allegedly involved in a morning mugging.
The injured police officials were identified as OC Zahidul Islam and a sub-inspector, both of whom sustained injuries from sharp weapons. They are reportedly out of danger.
Police said the injured suspects were identified as Rubel alias Chora Rubel and Amir alias Kana Amir. Two others, Kashem and Md Joy, were also arrested during the operation.
Earlier in the morning, a man was attacked and robbed of Tk 3.5 lakh at Shekhertek area under Adabor. The victim, Shafiqul Islam, was injured in the attack and is undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation.
Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ibne Mizan said the police team came under attack while conducting the operation after identifying the robbery group.
He added that the injured police officials received medical treatment and the two injured suspects were taken to hospital.
