BNP senior leader Mirza Abbas is under close medical observation following brain surgery, with doctors reporting that his CT scan on Saturday morning showed good results.
“His CT scan was done in the morning and the report is good,” said BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam on Saturday afternoon. He added that Abbas is being monitored round the clock by a medical board.
Abbas will remain under intensive observation for 72 hours. The medical board overseeing his care includes Prof Ali Uzzaman Joarder, Prof Kazi Din Mohammad, Prof Shahabuddin Talukder, Prof Raziul Haque, Prof Syed Sayeed Ahmed, Prof Kader Sheikh, Prof Shafiqul Islam and other physicians at Evercare Hospital Dhaka.
The board had decided on Friday to carry out urgent brain surgery, which began at around 3:10 pm and concluded at 7 PM, after which Abbas was transferred to the Neuro ICU.
Abbas was admitted to Evercare Hospital on Wednesday after suddenly falling ill and losing consciousness during iftar. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited him at the hospital on Friday afternoon.
